Haitung Goodwill Foundation (HGF), Tamenglong was established in 2012 in memory of late Haitung Pame by the dynamic and foresighted children, alongside like-minded individuals of the region, with the aim of reaching out to the people of the entire western district of Manipur state through integrated developmental activities. The society was registered on 20th November 2012, vide Registration No.1040/SR/TD/2012 under the Societies Registration Act, 1989 (Act No.1 of 1990) and received certification from the Department of Social Welfare, Govt. of Manipur to run a Children Home under the Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act, 2015 on 3rd January 2017, vide Registration No. 9/114/JJA of 2016.
Haitung Goodwill Foundation was established with a vision to help the poor and the needy by providing quality education and basic care in any capacity possible. It stemmed from a deep concern for those from remote villages who could not continue or afford schooling due to the dire economic conditions of their families. Since 2010, efforts have been made in every capacity to support those in need, even before HGF was officially set up.
Since the inception of the Foundation, the society has undertaken many significant activities, including health awareness programs, career guidance, workshops on RTI, JJ Act, climate change awareness, inter-school quiz competitions, orientation programs for women and youth, and sports activities, all focused on educating, enabling, and empowering the downtrodden people of the region.
Thus, it began with a hostel for underprivileged and orphaned students. Haitung Goodwill Foundation opened the “Suiyi Hostel” with 20 kids in 2014, expanding to 32 in 2015, 47 in 2016, and finally reaching 52 kids in 2017. The hostel provided residential stay for these children with food and lodging facilities, completely free of cost while they studied in their chosen schools, where fees were covered.
However, as the demand for quality education increased among children lacking facilities or finances for their studies, the small hostel could no longer accommodate them. HGF then took this vision further by establishing a school in April 2018, after much deliberation and discussion.
Named “Holy Angels Academy,” the school currently serves about 300 children from Nursery to 10th grade. The school was established upon observing that families were often separated for the sake of education, forcing them to relocate to different towns while spending excessive amounts to meet their children's educational needs.
There is now a pressing need to rebuild these villages and assist families in saving their hard-earned resources during their children's schooling years, allowing them to pursue further education elsewhere as they grow.
The school is a private residential institute established under the aegis of the Haitung Goodwill Foundation in 2018. It is located in a conducive environment, perfect for quiet and peaceful studies, aligned with the Christian principles of education. Initially, the school had classes from KG to Class VII, and today it has been upgraded to High School Level, as per the Govt. Of Manipur Secretariat Education-S Department, Order No. 18 of 2021, dated 22nd November 2021.
Thus, the school has been established to address the urgent need for quality education in an area that is in dire need of change and development. Furthermore, the neighboring villages in and around the school are also provided with employment opportunities, enabling families to comfortably send their children to this school instead of a far-away place.
